Merchant Tools · MT: Omnibus Price & EU GARAN
The EU guidelines on Directive (EU) 2024/825 expect the legal guarantee notice in the order confirmation e-mail too, with a reminder of the GARAN label for products that carry one. Shopify does not let any app edit your notifications, so this is a one-time copy and paste. It takes about 5 minutes. Follow the numbers on the screenshots.
Part 1 — Copy the code from the app
In your Shopify admin, open MT: Omnibus Price & EU GARAN in the left menu, then click Settings under the app's name.
Scroll down to the Checkout and order confirmation e-mail section.
Keep this browser tab open. If you copy something else before step 10, come back here and click Copy the code again.
Part 2 — Open the Order confirmation notification
Click Settings at the very bottom of the left menu. This is Shopify's Settings, not the app's Settings page from step 1.
In the Settings menu, click Notifications.
Click Customer notifications, the first box. Staff notifications are only for your team.
Under Order processing, click Order confirmation, the first line. A preview of the e-mail opens.
Click the black Edit code button at the top right, next to “Send test” and “Translate”.
The grey language menu above the preview matters only if your store sends e-mails in several languages. Each language can have its own version of the template, so repeat this guide for each language version you have customised, and copy the code in that language at step 2.
Part 3 — Paste in the right place and save
The Email body (HTML) box holds the whole e-mail, a few thousand lines long. Click anywhere inside it, then press Ctrl + End (on a Mac: Cmd + ↓) to jump to the last line.
</body>, then Save{%- if billing_address). Scroll up a little until you see the line </body>, followed by </html>.</body> line, press Enter to make an empty line above it, click on that empty line and paste with Ctrl + V (Mac: Cmd + V).</body> (⑩). Then ⑪ Save.To check, scroll up about twenty lines: the pasted block starts with the comment line below, right after the end of Shopify's footer.
{% comment %} EU legal guarantee notice + GARAN reminder …Part 4 — Check the result
Click Preview (top right) or go back to the Order confirmation page and scroll to the bottom: the official EU legal guarantee notice now closes the e-mail, with its link to europa.eu/youreurope/guarantees.
The preview and “Send test” use Shopify's sample products, which have no guarantee declared. They show the notice, but never a GARAN line. To see a GARAN line, place a real test order with a product whose guarantee is 30 months or more. The e-mail then shows one line per such product, for example GARAN 5 — Wiper blade: Bosch · Aerotwin-AR450 · EU GARAN label. Products under 30 months get no line: the notice alone covers them.
The code was not saved (the Save bar was closed with Discard or the page was left), or it was pasted inside another block. Open Edit code again, press Ctrl + End, and check that the pasted block sits just above </body>.
The code was pasted in the middle of another line. Use the Revert to menu above the preview to go back to Shopify's default template, then start again at step 9. Reverting also removes the notice, which is expected.
Normal with the preview and with “Send test” (sample products). On a real order, check that the product's guarantee is 30 months or more (the app's Warranties page, or the product's “Producer durability guarantee (months)” metafield).
Your pasted code keeps working when the app is updated. To take a newer version of the e-mail code, replace the old block (from the {% comment %} EU legal guarantee notice line down to just above </body>) with the new one.
Shopify does not let apps add content to the checkout page of most stores. The app embed “EU guarantee notice” shows the reminder on the cart page, the last page before checkout. Stores on Shopify Plus can add the notice to the checkout with the checkout editor.
Displaying the notice and the label helps you comply; it is not legal advice. Questions: support@merchanttools.eu.
